What is

IT’S SIMPLE YET AWESOME. Laser eye surgery is efficient, reliable and one of the most popular nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism treatment methods, allowing permanently abandon eyeglasses and/or contact lenses.

It is a surgical operation where the upper part of the cornea is affected by a laser beam, which changes the corneal capability and breaking capacity. The rays of light passing through the optic of the eye begin to focus on the retina and the vision improves. Laser eye surgery will safely and quickly restore your vision.

Simply put, it corrects your poor vision and gives freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

  • Laser eye surgery is performed outpatient;
  • Surgery is accurate – the use of a computer laser reduces the probability of an operation error to a minimum;
  • Surgery is safe;
  • It is even more accurate and safer when applying a femtosecond laser to corneal clefts;
  • It is fast – lasts up to 20 minutes only;
  • It is efficient and reliable – only the best specialists in their field perform surgeries in our clinics;
  • the likelihood of infections and complications is reduced to the statistical minimum;
  • You will be able to enjoy the results in a few days or weeks, depending on the method of correction you choose;
  • Effects are long lasting – You will be able to forget about eye glasses or contact lenses.

HOW LASER EYE SURGERY IS PERFORMED

Laser eye surgery is gentle and quick in any of Lirema eye clinics you would choose. The surgery takes approx. 20 minutes only.

Eyedrops

Step 1

It all begins by making sure you feel no pain in the surgery process. So, firstly our surgeon will apply special anaesthetic eye drops which will eliminate pain during the surgery. By other means this is called local anaesthesia or inducing local analgesia, that is, local insensitivity to pain.

Laser appliance on eyes

Step 2

Next step, the upper part of the cornea is treated by laser, causing a change in the cornea’s convexity and refractory power. Light rays that pass through the optic system will start to be focused on the retina and this will improve your vision.

Healing eyes

Step 3

You will be given detailed instructions, recommendations and prescription for eye drops. Then you will be ready to go home. Recovery process may take from several days to weeks depending on various factors, including your natural healing speed.

CHOOSE A SURGERY METHOD

Your eye doctor will recommend the optimal surgery method for your eyesight, but you will always be free to choose the one you want. You will be able to discuss it during the consultation before your laser eye surgery. Any method guarantees the same effect – your perfect vision.

FEMTO LASIK - GENTLE AND QUICK

FEMTO LASIK (FS-LASIK or iLASIK) is the gentlest care method because it is safe and painless (BLADE FREE). Creation of the corneal flap performed with the femtosecond laser. Therefore the eyes heal very quickly, giving you improved vision within just a few hours. The usage of two lasers makes this the superior method for laser eye surgery.

LASEK (NO CUT) - SAFE AND AFFORDABLE

LASEK (NO CUT) is the treatment method recommended if you have severe astigmatism and thin corneas, and cannot undergo a FEMTO LASIK procedure as a result. After this surgery, 3 days are necessary for healing time and visual acuity usually stabilises within a few months.

SAFETY FIRST

Laser eye surgery is most popular eye surgery worldwide. Before any operation is carried out, various eye tests are conducted to enable a very precise assessment of the patient’s vision. Each eye is examined, after which the method for vision correction can be decided upon and safely planned (LASEK or FEMTO LASIK / FS-LASIK).

We stick to sustainable surgery which means that surgery is performed once an assessment has been fully accomplished answering whether it will meet the expectations of the surgeon and patient only.

If you can not find the answer to your question or want to discuss it personally do not hesitate to contact us.

What is the difference between LASEK and LASIK laser eye surgery (LASEK vs. LASIK)?

LASIK is the most commonly performed procedure and works by changing the curve of the cornea. Two lasers are utilised during surgery; one creates a protective flap and the other reshapes the cornea.Most patients enjoy improved vision immediately after LASIK surgery. LASEK is usually performed when the cornea is too thin for a laser to cut a flap in it. Instead a thin sheet is used to cover the areas of the cornea that won’t be treated. It may take a few days for vision to settle following LASEK surgery.

Is laser eye surgery suitable for me?

It is easy to find out as 1-2-3. Lirema Eye Clinic offers a free online consultation  – you don’t have to go anywhere and find out if laser eye surgery suitable for you just from home:

  1. fill the form;
  2. our specialist will evaluate your data in a few business days;
  3. get an answer via e-mail.

What happens during the operation? Will it hurt?

No, you won’t feel pain because your surgeon will place anesthetic eye drops in your eye first. During the operation, the upper part of the cornea will be treated by laser, causing a change in the cornea’s convexity and refractory power. Light rays that pass through the optic system will start to be focused on the retina and this will improve your vision. The surgery takes about 20 minutes. When we are finished, you will be given detailed instructions, recommendations and a prescription for eye drops. Then you will be ready to go home.

Can anyone correct a vision if they wear glasses or contact lenses ?

No, laser eye surgery is not recommended for every patient who requests one. Our professional doctors with long expertise will not suggest vision correction if they believe that the desired outcome of good vision without glasses is unlikely to be achieved. The operation is recommended only for those with myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism conditions that do not exceed safe operational limits, and who do not have a cornea that is too thin, or any eye diseases or certain other illnesses. Press here if you want to find out if laser eye surgery suits you.

How should I prepare for laser eye surgery?

You should not wear contact lenses for two weeks and do not use eye cosmetics (e.g. mascara or eyeshadow) for several days before the surgery.

Does laser eye surgery have any impact on pregnancy or giving birth?

Laser vision correction surgery does not affect the process of giving birth; nor does the process of giving birth affect corrected eyes. However, it is recommended that you wait for about six months after the surgery before trying to get pregnant because of the hormone- and antibiotic-based eye drops used after an operation, they may have an effect on the development of the fetus. The surgery itself causes the body stress, as does pregnancy and giving birth, so a break is recommended between them. We are pleased to say that there are many female patients who have given birth after laser eye surgery and continue to enjoy excellent vision. Request a free online consultation and we will get back to you with a recommendation for the treatment that suits you best!

What should I do if I don’t feel well a month after the surgery?

Lirema eye surgery includes 2 years guarantee which covers all extra consultations and re-operations if there is such need. Normally it takes 4–6 months to gain the same vision as wearing glasses or lenses so we kindly ask you some patience. We can consult you by email and provide all necessary support to comfort you but if you are willing to come we will provide you a free consultation.

Why doctors sometimes do not recommend laser eye surgery?

We keep sustainable surgery policy at Lirema meaning we search the treatment which suits the patient the most. Our professional and high expertise doctors will not recommend a procedure if it exceeds safe surgery limits. It might be a case when other vision correction methods are more suitable, such as intraocular correction or a clear-lens operation. Please note that the only place for such consultation is those clinics that perform refraction laser surgeries.

Will I be able to see without glasses for the rest of my life?

The effects of laser eye surgery are long-term and stable. However, the medical possibilities are not limitless. These operations are not a restoration of vision but the replacement of one method of correction (glasses or contact lenses) with another (surgery). It is expected that after an operation, person will be able to see without glasses the way he could before with a good pair of glasses or contact lenses. It is important to note that the results of an operation are also highly dependent on the extent and complexity of the person’s myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism.

Which season of the year is the best for laser eye surgery?

The season does not affect the success of the surgery: patients may choose any time that suits them. However, if you are planning to go on an active vacation afterwards, you should bear in mind that your eyes will be more sensitive for a while and you will need to watch out for dust and direct sunlight. You should also avoid bathing in open bodies of water and swimming pools.

How should I take care of my eyes after the surgery?

You shouldn’t use eye cosmetics for several weeks after laser eye surgery and regularly use eye drops in order to avoid dryness. No worry it’s temporary, but your eyes will be more sensitive for some time so please avoid dust and sun rays (by wearing sunglasses), bathing in open bodies of water and swimming pools.

When will I be able to return to work after laser eye surgery?

The time when you can return to work depends on the nature of your job. We usually recommend taking a few days off because this will give you enough time to prepare for the surgery and be monitored afterward.
